Diablo 2 Sanctuary is Diablo at its very core, with a bunch of shiny upgrades. In this mod you will find many game functions have been reworked in a way to make them much more unique than in ordinary Diablo, along with a few additional features.
Firstly, Sanctuary features d2multires (big thanks to Sluggy for designing it) which allows players to play in a higher resolution than 800x600. In addition to this you will find a shiny new user interface to compliment it!
In addition to d2multires, Sanctuary features PlugY (designed by Yohann) which will allow players to unassign stat points and skill points! When holding the ALT key, you will be able to unassign points. To unassign skills, there is now an X button on the top right of the skill tree that will unassign all skills.
Skills in Sanctuary differ very much from normal Diablo 2. For starters, there are a few skills which are shared between all classes; such as dodge rate, block rate, attack speed, energy recovery, ect. Secondly, all skills cap at level 5 with the exception of Chakra (a skill with no level cap that helps manage energy in a very special way. This skill is very vital!) The skill point cost to gain level 1 in a skill is 0, from then on the cost is the skill level - 1. It takes a total of 10 skill points to get level 5 in a skill.
Along with our trusty new skills, we also have our beautiful new item system! Instead of hunting uniques or farming rares until you get what you need, the player designs their items as they go along. Upgrade items can be purchased and can come as drops. These upgrades range from socketing kits, to runes. All armor now adds a damage reduction rating rather than making it harder to be hit. This makes armor actually function as armor rather than an extra dodge chance.
Sockets are available depending on the items level. Starting at level 10 items can be socketed. The number of sockets increases by 1 for every 10 levels. The highest socket amount can not exceed the number of inventory spaces the item requires; ie a helmet caps at 4 sockets at level 40, and a torso/weapon/shield caps at 6 sockets at level 60. Items will also be dye-able through this new crafting system!
When it comes to monsters, you will find there are no more immune crazy foes. All monsters have been given 16% resistance (or 1/6th) to all damages, meaning player attacks do roughly the same damage to monsters as they do to players. (Damage display will soon be reworked to display correct damages!)
